Tibetan uprising 2008

March 2008 saw the breakout of the largest protests in Tibet since 1959, as Tibetans across the country went out in large numbers to take part in peaceful protests against Chinese rule. The protests lasted for months, and thanks to your support, Free Tibet was able to gain news, witness statements and photographic evidence from inside Tibet and share it with the world's media. With your support and funding, we were able to give a greater voice to the brave protesters in Tibet, ensuring that the world became aware that despite almost sixty years of repression, the Tibetan people still demand their freedom.

We reported on over 100 protests in Tibet from March onwards, galvanisaing support across the world. We broke stories about the shooting of Tibetans in Ngaba County that left at least 13 dead, provided photographic evidence of the killings which were seen the world over and also brought crackdowns in Machu and Thonkor to the world's attention. Such vital work would not have been possible without your support.
