Olympic Games 2008

Your support placed human rights in Tibet firmly on the agenda during the Beijing Games, prompting serious questions from journalists, politicians and influencial bodies about the legitimacy of Chinese rule in Tibet. China had hoped the Olympics would provide international recognition that Tibet is part of China; your support helped make sure that the opposite was the case.

Your funding also allowed us to send representatives to Beijing to help with high profile actions which again made headlines and highlighted the relevance of the Tibetan cause, sparking serious debate.

Produced by Tibet Watch

Broken Promises documents the extent of China's broken Olympic promises made to the IOC and the international community. Whilst the people of Tibet continued to live in a culture of fear under Chinese military occupation, the Chinese government treated the IOC, and its Olympic Charter, with contempt.
