Less Talk More Action for human rights!

"There is little evidence that the British Government’s policy of constructive dialogue with China has led to any significant improvements in the human rights situation.
The Foreign Affairs Select Committee, Human Rights Annual Report

Dear

Free Tibet is calling for a Foreign Affairs Select Committee inquiry into the effectiveness of the UK’s human rights strategy for China and Tibet.

As your constituent I am asking you to support it too.

The urgent need for Tibetan and Chinese people to be afforded the basic human rights we all take for granted affects us all. The stability of China, Tibet and subsequently international security and the global economy depend on it.

The time to ACT is now:

• There is still no road-map to secure a negotiated settlement to the Tibet crisis following the collapse of the Sino-Tibetan Dialogue in 2008, despite the Foreign Office acknowledging talks as the “only forum in which there is any realistic possibility of progress...”
• There has been no demonstrable improvement in human rights in Tibet, despite more than a decade of the UK-China Human Rights Dialogue.
• “Tibet is ‘part of China ’ ” – this concession to China was made by the Foreign Secretary without parliamentary scrutiny and with no human rights gains in return.
• The UK’s increasing engagement with China is accompanied by a human rights approach that lacks realistic or achievable goals.
• The human rights situation in Tibet is
getting worse.

Please ACT now. Sign the Early Day MotionNumber 2133 in support of the inquiry and write to Mike Gapes MP, Chair of the FASC, in support of Free Tibet’s request for an inquiry.
Thank you.
