Uprising March: London 2009 |
7 March 2009
Around a thousand Tibetans and supporters took to the streets of London to mark fifty years of peaceful resistance in Tibet, and to show their solidarity with people suffering under the military lockdown in Tibet today.
The march began at the Chinese Embassy in Portland Place and continued to Trafalgar Square, where a rally included speeches from ex political prisoner Palden Gyatso and others.
On 10 March, around 300 took part in a mass lobby of parliament, raising the Tibet issue with the MPs and discussing ways in which the British Government can help bring human rights and freedoms to Tibet. Other marches, protests and events took place around the world.
