Tibet in the news: 2009 |
In 2009, the Chinese government worked hard to prevent access to Tibet by imposing a state of de facto martial law and imposing tighter controls on internet access, phone lines and access to Tibet for reporters and tourists. Despite these controls and the climate of fear which China sought to increase, Tibetans continued to protest against Chinese rule.
