Teenage Tibetan girl self-immolates |
12 February 2012
Tenzin Choedon (right), an 18-year-old, has become the latest Tibetan to set themselves on fire.
Tenzin, a nun from Dechen Chokorling Nunnery (also known as Mamae Nunnery), Ngaba Town, has died.
Tibetan protest
Tenzin was calling out slogans of protest against the Chinese government when she self-immolated.
Soldiers and police came immediately and took her away. Soldiers then surrounded the site and sealed it off. Nothing more is known of the situation there.
China's war
Tenzin is the second nun from this nunnery to self-immolate. Last year 20-year-old Tenzin Wangmo died after setting herself on fire.
The latest self-immolation took place just days after the Chinese leader of the Tibet Autonomous Region told Communist Party members to prepare for “a war against secessionist sabotage”.
