Photos of crackdown from Tibet |
2 December 2011
The following photographs were published on 2 December 2011 by the Chinese language website Boxun.com, based in the USA.
Boxun says that the photos were leaked and are taken in the Tibetan areas of Sichuan Province. Kandze Autonomous Prefecture and Ngaba Autonomous Prefecture comprise the Tibetan area of Sichuan. Boxun provides no more information about the locations. It says that some photos were taken in April 2008.
Free Tibet can confirm that Photos 6,7 and 8 were taken in Ngaba; we are unable to confirm the date of the photographs or the locations depicted in the other photographs.
The paramilitary People's Armed Police (in green) and the Special Branch of the People's Armed Police (in blue) can be seen in the photographs.

1. Monks are taken with placards around their necks. The placards detail their names and their crimes. The monk who is most clearly visible has the name Lobsang Zopa, written in Chinese, on the placard around his neck.

2. Lay people are bent double with their hands behind their backs by the Special Branch of People's Armed Police.

3. The monk in the grey sweater is Tamding Gyatso, charged with splittism. The monk next to him is also charged of splitting the nation, a crime that carries up to life imprisonment.

4. Monks with placards around their necks are forced forwards over the side of the truck, as if to parade them to the public. Again, their names and crimes are written on the placards around their necks.
