Protests during Beijing Olympics
The Chinese government claimed human rights would improve in Tibet and China if Beijing won the right to host the 2008 Olympics. Instead of improving, the human rights situation in Tibet has deteriorated. As Beijing counted down to the Opening Ceremony, the Chinese government was already plotting to punish Tibetans for daring to call for freedom.
Despite a massive security presence asigned to prevent demonstrations in Beijing, protesters were determined to make their voices heard as China's promises of media freedom were put to the test.
