Mass lobby and protest March 2010

Tibetans and supporters lobby UK parliament

Tibetans and supporters marked the 51st anniversary of the 1959 Tibetan uprising by joining a mass lobby of UK parliament in London, meeting their MPs face to face and talking to them about the situation in Tibet.

Those who attended asked their representatives to call for a British consulate to be set up in Lhasa and for their MPs to sign EDM 345, demanding a Foreign Affairs Select Committee inquiry into the effectiveness of the UK's Tibet policy.

Before the lobby, there was a brief protest outside the Chinese Embassy and a wreath-laying ceremony at Westminister Abbey, commemorating the 86,000 Tibetans who died during the uprising of 1959.
