Earthquake in Tibet

Tibetans come together to help victims

Tibetans in neighbouring regions of earthquake-hit Yushu County are coming together in their grief for the victims of the earthquake.

Government officials and locals in Rebkong in Malho Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture have already donated over 200,000 RMB to help the survivors of the earthquake who are now left homeless and desperate for support. Tibetans in other townships and villages in Malho have also donated, with some locals donating 1000 RMB (about £100) which is the equivalent of a monthly salary in rural Tibet.

Tibetan internet users mourning the victims have changed their profiles in the popular chat service QQ with the text: “We mourn and pray for our Tibetan brothers and sisters who died in the earthquake.”
