JANUARY-MARCH 2009

2009 marked 50 years of peaceful resistance to Chinese rule in Tibet.
After the biggest uprising in Tibet since 1959, the Chinese authorities were keen to avoid a repeat of 2008's Spring protests, and placed Tibet under a state of military lockdown.
