Archive of news & media surrounding the 2008 protests

In March 2008, Tibet errupted in protest following the 49th anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising of 1959. The Chinese crackdowns on protesters resulted in the reported deaths of a hundred people, and highlighted the fact that China's record on human rights and freedoms remains one of the worst in the world.

As the Beijing Olympics approached, the international news media joined human rights groups in condemning the Chinese occupation and supression of Tibet, and for the Olympics to be used to expose China's human rights abuses.

Free Tibet also obtained graphic photographs of the bodies of protesters who had been killed during the troubles.
These protesters have clearly been shot and these pictures are very detailed.
