Tibet Alert - Plateau and nomads under threat

Sunday, 26 February 2012

On Sunday 26th February at 2.30pm in the theatre at Stamford Arts Centre two films will be screened about the Tibetan Plateau and Tibetan nomads.

The films were made by Michael Buckley, travel writer, Tibet supporter and a Buddhist. After the screening there will be a question and answer session. The panel for this will be Pema Yoko, coordinator of the Students for Free tibet UK, Tashi Despa maker of the BBC4 film Return to Tibert and Alison Reynolds, director of International Tibet Network. We hope to have a SKYPE link up with Michael Buckley.

The films are "Meltdown in Tibet" which is about the natural melting of the tibetan plateau and the large scale damming of the mighty rivers by the Chinese. These mighty rivers give water to millions of people in Asia.

"From Nomad to Nobody" is a documentary film about the vanishing nomads of Tibet. This situation can equated to what happened the North American Iindians and the Aborigines of Australia. TheTibetan nomads have successfully managed the vast grasslands of Tibet for centuries. Thousands have been forced to leave their way of of life and live in what can only be described as "open prisons" or ghettos.

Tickets are £8 (£6) and are available from Stamford Arts Centre, St Mary's Street, Stamford Lincs PE9 2DL, www.stamfordartscentre.com or on 01780 766282.
