Take Action to Put Tibet on Parliament's Agenda |
Contact your MP
Write to your MP to congratulate him or her on being elected. In your letter, tell your MP that you are concerned about human rights in Tibet and China, and ask him or her to champion this issue. Click here for a sample letter that you can send to your MP.
Find out if your MP pledged
Check this list to see if your MP pledged to support human rights in Tibet and China. Also check to see if your MP is a Tibet champion or a sympathetic MP. If so, write to them and thank them for their support.
Keep MPs to their pledge
Now that MPs have made a commitment, help Free Tibet to hold them to it.
Stay in touch
Stay in touch with your MP. If they signed the Free Tibet pledge card, please write to them thanking them for making the pledge and congratulating them on their election. In the same letter you could mention that you care passionately about human rights and Tibet and you will be expecting them to represent your views by promoting human rights and Tibet in parliament.
Arrange a one-to-one meeting
Arrange a one- to-one meeting with your elected MP. This is an excellent opportunity to establish a relationship, and we would be happy to talk to you about issues to raise with your MP. Also, be sure to ask your MP to join the Free Tibet Parliamentary mailing list.
Raise your concerns
Contact your elected MP whenever you have major concerns about Tibet (eg if you receive from us and Urgent Campaign letter about the detention of a political prisoner or other human rights violations taking place in Tibet).
Ask your MP to join the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet
You could also ask them if they are interested in joining the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet, and if they are interested in receiving regular updates from Free Tibet. (Please let us know if they are interested.) You can suggest that your MP set up a meeting with Free Tibet Director, Stephanie Brigden.
