A New Birth of Freedom for Tibet?

Take part in our e-mail campaign to Barack Obama

President Obama has spoken up for Tibet in the past, criticising the crackdowns on peaceful protests in Tibet in March 2008 and praising the Dalai Lama when the Tibetan spiritual leader was awarded the US Congressional Gold Medal in 2007.

President Obama has said this of Tibet:
"If Tibetans are to live in harmony with the rest of China's people, their religion and culture must be respected and protected. Tibet should enjoy genuine and meaningful autonomy."

Dear Mr President

A New Birth of Freedom for Tibet

I would like to congratulate to you on your historic election as President of the United States of America. Your election proved that change really can happen.

As a Tibet supporter, I also believe change can happen for Tibet. But for freedom to become a reality there must be political will and concrete action among world leaders to bring a solution to the crisis in Tibet. You have shown unyielding support for Tibet in the past, most notably last year following mass protests by Tibetans against Chinese occupation. I hope you will continue to stand up for Tibet during your presidency, particularly now when Tibet is facing its worst crisis in decades. After 60 years of occupation and oppression the Tibetan people yearn for political change.

I sincerely hope that your Adminstration will help make such a change a reality.

Yours sincerely,

A Tibet supporter
