Urgent campaign update 14 July:
Campaign success! Foreign Secretary makes statement in Beijing on human rights in Tibet
The Foreign Secretary stated in a press conference in Beijing on 14 July that London has "long- standing human rights concerns" over Tibet. He also said: "We want to see long-term stability for Tibet which in our view implies work on human rights and greater autonomy".
Free Tibet’s supporters contacted Mr Hague prior to his visit calling on him to make a public statement on Tibet. Free Tibet is pleased Mr Hague honoured the government’s pledge to "seek closer engagement with China, while standing firm on human rights".
We believe it is important to hold the government accountable to its commitments and equally to recognise and celebrate when these committments are met.
Send Mr Hague a thank you card or an email message through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office weblink.
If you can, please send Mr Hague a Tibet- themed card so that he can develop a sense of connection to the people he spoke up for. You can buy a pack of ten cards from Free Tibet.
