27/10/11: Global day of action |

Enough is Enough! Global Action for Tibet!
Wednesday 2 November
In the past seven months, nine current and former monks and a nun have set themselves on fire in eastern Tibet. Five have died.
The latest self-immolation on 25 October took place in Kandze, about 150 kilometres from Ngaba, where eight of the nine previous self-immolations took place.
Coupled with protests in other parts of Tibet, it underlines that the crisis in Tibet is not driven by events in one town, but represents a wider rejection of China’s occupation of Tibet.
Read more about the recent self-immolations.
To highlight the Chinese government's brutal rule and oppression of the Tibetan people and to call for action from international governments there will a world-wide Day of Action by Tibetans and Tibet-supporters on 2 November, the day before world leaders meet in Nice, France for a G20 Summit London.

TAKE ACTION FOR TIBET
UK GOVERNMENT - CONTACT YOUR MP
In light of the recent unprecedented self-immolations in Tibet and the government’s stated commitment to the protection of human rights, the British government must raise the current situation and Chinese policies in Tibet with their Chinese counterparts.
I am aware that the British government believes that “substantive dialogue with the Tibetan representatives” is “the only way to bring about a lasting and peaceful solution to the problems in Tibet.” (Foreign Secretary July 2010)
In view of this belief and the Coalition Manifesto’s commitment to stand firm on human rights with China, and in the light of the deteriorating situation in Tibet, urge your MP to press the British government to:
• Immediately issue a public statement of concern over the current situation in Tibet.
• Publicly call on the Chinese government to respect the human rights of the Tibetan people, including the right to freely practise their religion, and to urgently address the underlying grievances of the Tibetan people.
• Work with other world governments to issue a statement that calls on China to cease its repressive policies in Tibet and Tibetan areas, to respect the rights of the Tibetan people and to institute multi-lateral mechanisms to advocate for the Tibetan people in order to achieve justice and peace in Tibet.
• Provide diplomatic support for substantive talks between China and Tibetan representatives in order to bring about a peaceful and just solution for the people of Tibet.
